Steam jet refrigeration is a system, which uses steam ejector to compress the vapor coming from evaporator, instead of mechanical compression device. Components of steam jet refrigeration system are similar to vapor compression cycle, i.e. evaporator, compression device, condenser and the refrigerant. Water is the refrigerant and cooling effect is achieved by evaporation of the water in the evaporator, which is at low absolute pressure. Hence, no separate expansion device is needed in steam jet system.

The ‘Swarg Systems & Instruments’ system consists of an evaporator, to which attached is main steam jet ejector. Main ejector draws water vapor from evaporator, compresses it and sends to evaporative condenser, where it is collected in condensate collector. A two stage air ejector attached to condenser remove air and non-condensable gases and maintain the condenser pressure at required level.

A steam generator with electrical heaters supplies steam to all the ejector nozzles.

Water is circulated in the evaporator through a coil, which gets cooled.

SPECIFICATIONS :-

  1. Steam generator – About 20 lit. capacity, fitted with 6kw electric heaters –3 Nos., water filling cup, overflow valve, safety valve and drain. One heater is controlled by a pressure switch.
  2. Evaporator – Approx 26 lit. capacity, with copper tube coil inside for water circulation and proper heat insulation outside.
  3. Ejectors and nozzles – Made of brass, manufactured with stringent dimensional and surface finish control to give high efficiency.
  4. Condenser – Evaporative condenser made of copper tube with fins and water
  5. spray arrangement connected to condensate collector.
  6. Measurements and controls
    • Multi channel digital temperature indicator to measure temperatures at various points.
    • Pressure gauges to record steam generator and ejector pressure – 3 Nos.
    • Single tube mercury manometers for measurement of vacuum in evaporator and condenser.
    • Measuring flask and stop watch.
    • Pressure cutout for one heater.
