The ‘Swarg Systems & Instruments’ apparatus consists of a stainless steel vessel, inside which a copper tube helical coil is fitted. Fluid in the vessel is kept at desired temperature (above room temperature) cold fluid passing through coil picks up heat from surrounding hot fluid. An agitator is fitted inside the vessel, whose speed can be varied with the help of variac. Another variac controls the input to electrical heater in the vessel. The vessel is insulated from outside to minimize heat losses. Various controls and measurements provided enable the students to determine overall heat transfer coefficient & effect of agitator speed and water flow through coil on overall heat transfer coefficient.

SPECIFICATIONS
1) Agitated Vessel – Stainless steel vessel around 20 lit. capacity insulated on out side, fitted with copper tube helical coil, electric heater inside & an agitator at the top.
2) Variac to vary input to electrical heater.
3) Variac to vary agitator speed.
4) Control valve to control water flow rate.
5) Thermometers to measure –

  • Vessel fluid temperature.
  • Inlet & outlet temperatures of water flowing through coil.

6) Measuring flask & stop watch to measure water flow rate.
7) Optional accessories – (Can be supplied at extra cost.)

  • Multi channel digital temperature indicator with thermocouples, instead of thermometers.
  • Rotameter to measure water flow instead of measuring flask and stop clock.
  • Tachometer to measure agitator speed.

SERVICES REQUIRED
1) 230v, 15A, AC stabilized supply with earthing connection.
2) Bench area of 1.5m x 1m at working height.
3) Water flow rate @ of 8-10 lit/min. at constant head.
