The Involute gear teeth profiles are cut by many ways. One of the way is by cutting the teeth with the rack cutter in which the basic rack has straight teethes.
The cutting ends in the formation of involute teeth profile.
The equipment consists of a board on which the arrangement of sliding rack and rotating disc made of acrylic material is provided. Both the motions i.e. liner motion of rack and rotary motion of disc can be measured with the help of corresponding scales provided. The profile of the rack is traced on the disc as it slides on the other side. When one of the teeth of the rack completely passes through the disc area, a complete involute profile is traced on the disc.
