Product Description

Compression ratio is an important factor governing an I. C. engine performance. The ‘Swarg Systems & Instruments’ unit provides a means to study the performance of engine at various compression ratios and with both petrol & diesel as fuel. The unit consists of an I. C. engine with adjustable cylinder block & head assembly so that clearance volume can be varied without changing the shape of combustion chamber. The engine is provided with overhead cam shaft. The cylinder head incorporates the diesel fuel injector and the spark plug. Also, arrangement to vary the ignition timing for petrol version is provided. Thus performance of the engine can be studied over a wide range of compression ratios.

SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Engine – Four stroke, single cylinder, water cooled I. C. engine with adjustable cylinder block & head assembly for varying compression ratio. Compression ratio range 5:1 to 21:1 developing 3.7 Kw at 2200 rpm. The engine can be run either on diesel or petrol. The engine is provided with self starter & battery.
  2. Dynamometer – The engine can supplied with either of following types of dynamometer –
    • Rope Brake Dynamometer spring balances.
    • Hydraulic Dynamometer
    • Electrical Dynamometer (with electrical dynamometer motoring test option can be supplied at extra cost.)
  3. Arrangement to vary ignition timing for petrol engine within 280 BTDC to 100 ATDC.
  4. Carburetor for petrol operation.
  5. Fuel pump & fuel injector for diesel operation.
  6. Contactless Transistorized Electronic ignition system for petrol operation.
  7. Following measurements are provided with test rig.
    • Fuel intake measurement arrangement.
    • Air intake measurement arrangement.
    • Exhaust gas calorimeter to measure heat lost in exhaust gases.
    • Multichannel digital temperature indicator.
    • Tachometer (Digital)

SERVICES REQUIRED

  1. Floor space of about 1.5 mtr. X 2 mtr.
  2. Water supply of about 15 lit/min at constant head.
  3. Single phase 230 V, AC supply with earthing 32A, 230 V AC supply if motoring test is ordered.
