Product Description
Compression ratio is an important factor governing an I. C. engine performance. The ‘Swarg Systems & Instruments’ unit provides a means to study the performance of engine at various compression ratios and with both petrol & diesel as fuel. The unit consists of an I. C. engine with adjustable cylinder block & head assembly so that clearance volume can be varied without changing the shape of combustion chamber. The engine is provided with overhead cam shaft. The cylinder head incorporates the diesel fuel injector and the spark plug. Also, arrangement to vary the ignition timing for petrol version is provided. Thus performance of the engine can be studied over a wide range of compression ratios.
Various data of the test is obtained through the sensors and fed to computer. The acquired data can be stored, analyzed and results can be plotted in tabular as well as graphical representation.
SPECIFICATIONS
- Engine – Four stroke, single cylinder, water cooled I. C. engine with adjustable cylinder block & head assembly for varying compression ratio. Compression ratio range 5:1 to 21:1 developing 3.7 Kw at 1500 rpm. The engine can be run either on diesel or petrol. The engine is provided with self starter & battery.
- Dynamometer – The engine can supplied with either of following types of dynamometer.
- Hydraulic Dynamometer
- Electrical Dynamometer ( test option can be supplied at extra cost.)
- Eddy current dynamometer.
- Arrangement to vary ignition timing for petrol engine within 280 BTDC to 100 ATDC.
- Carburetor for petrol operation.
- Fuel pump & fuel injector for diesel operation.
- Contactless Transistorized Electronic ignition system for petrol operation.
- Following measurements are provided with test rig.
- Fuel intake measurement arrangement with up& low switches.
- Orifice and differential pressure sensor for air intake measurement.
- Exhaust gas calorimeter to measure heat lost in exhaust gases.
- Thermocouples for temperature measurements.
- Turbine type water flow sensors – 2 Nos.
- Load cell for measurement of torque.
- Photoreflective pickup for speed measurement.
- Piezo sensor for cylinder pressure and encoder for crank angle measurement.

- Win98 based user friendly operating software for the application of engine test for determination of various characteristics of engine.
The conduction of any or all the tests may require manual intervention for starting, loading, set point settings. The data so generated shall be collected and stored in ASCII TEXT files with unique naming facilities. On completion of test, various results formats and graphical representations shall be viewable as softcopy on screen as well as hardcopy printouts.

- Water supply of about 15 lit/min at constant head.
- Single phase 230 V, AC supply with earthing 32A, 230 V AC supply if motoring test is ordered.
